Our Experience

Educational research is a particular strength. Our experience includes surveys of educational professionals, evaluations of educational programmes, and desk-based research to inform policy. We have an in-depth knowledge and understanding of educational policy and the curriculum across all four UK nations, underpinned by extensive experience of engaging with primary, secondary, further and higher education institutions. We work with a range of associates in the education sector bringing direct experience of the education system.

CITB commissioned Harlow Consulting to provide evidence on the efficiency and impact of construction sector FE and make recommendations how FE could be developed to enhance skills and build capacity in the construction supply chain. Fieldwork included a literature review which assessed five comparator countries as well as the UK, supplemented with depth interviews and a round table discussion with construction sector education stakeholders.

Working with Cast Consultancy, these projects involved identifying and engaging with industry and training providers in the two regions to understand current and future skills demands, current provision and barriers to offering and accessing relevant training. Consultations with training providers also focused on understanding tutor’s skills, gaps and shortages when delivering competency-based training.

We conducted an independent evaluation of the New to English Speakers of Other Languages (New to ESOL) programme for teachers/trainers in the Further Education (FE) sector. This evaluated professional learning and development including training and resources designed to support practitioners (teachers, classroom assistants, volunteers, and others) working with New to ESOL learners. We designed a logic model framework and research tools designed in alignment with the Kirkpatrick Training Evaluation Model and undertook a comprehensive specialist academic review of the teaching methodology and resources including focus groups with practitioners and a series of depth interviews with practitioners and FE leaders.

“The project team were a pleasure to work with. They were responsive to our requests, they undertook a thorough analysis over the wide area that was being evaluated and kept us well informed on project progress as well as of indicative findings. The timescales of the project were short, but the team were able to hit the ground running and they were able to accommodate us in delivering the evaluation successfully.”
