What I do

I’m a freelance community participation consultant working to promote participatory approaches. Over the course of my career, I’ve worked with many charities and in local government, with direct involvement in community regeneration projects, grant funding and partnership work. I have developed and led a Community Leadership Development Programme across Leeds working in partnership with Leeds University and Leeds City Council.

My research is predominantly community-focused, including research into health & social care issues, and campaigning for improvements. I’ve co-created research with people with lived experience of poverty and worked with homeless people in York to co-create a book about homelessness.

Participatory action research projects have included training residents and communities to empower people and increase community cohesion and resilience. My work training residents in Grimsby in participatory action research techniques to research inequality and poverty as a pilot for a UKRI grant resulted in £1m of funding over a five-year period.

Areas of specialism

I specialise in community based Participatory Action Research (PAR) techniques and often provide bespoke training to build capacity and upskill in this valuable research methodology.
